A Message from the Chairman & CEO

As I reflect on 2006, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our physicians, employees, vendors and other community partners who helped make this a stellar year. In 2006 we witnessed tremendous growth and experienced momentum like no other year in the history of the Nix Health Care System.

A leader in medicine since our inception over 76 years ago, the Nix added several state-of-the-art equipment and expanded programs and services to better serve the community. However, these changes did not happen overnight. The changes were years in the making and the talented and dedicated staff of the Nix took the vision to innovate and made it a reality in 2006.

From the renovation of the labor and delivery floor, to the opening of the Women’s Health Clinic on the West Side, to the addition of cutting edge technology in the cardiovascular lab we are reinvigorating our commitment to medicine. The Nix is also proud to boast that we were the first in San Antonio to offer “soft” mammography. In addition, our physicians made our Wound Healing Center a true comprehensive center by offering all specialties in one location.

In our mission of healing, we continue to enhance our premier behavioral health, rehabilitation, orthopaedic, geriatric and anesthesia offerings. As we improve our access to care we are taking our message of being a system that provides a comprehensive continuum of care to the outlying areas of San Antonio. Our commitment to excellence and quality differentiates the Nix from any other hospital in San Antonio.

Time and time again, our programs and services have earned recognition for superior care. USA Today, JCAHO, CMS, The Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine Society, Texas Medical Foundation, Texas Department of State Health Services, Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation and other key organizations have recognized our efforts.

Our successes throughout the year are due in large part to the support and leadership of our medical staff. Compassion along with innovative treatment, cutting-edge technology and comprehensive services have earned the Nix Health Care System a reputation for excellence. We have set the bar for the future and welcome the opportunities and challenges in 2007 as we continue to serve those who entrust their health to the Nix.
