Sports Medicine Center
A COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Affiliated with the Nix Foundation, the Nix Sports Medicine Center was established in 1983 by Jesse C. DeLee, M.D. and provides intensive support and quality medical care for student athletes in Bexar and surrounding counties. Founded as an outreach program to assist San Antonio’s inner city schools, the Center has since expanded to include public and private secondary schools, as well as colleges and universities throughout San Antonio and South Texas.
PROFESSIONAL DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES & TREATMENT
Evaluation and treatment of sports related injuries is provided by orthopaedic surgeons, primary care and pediatric physicians who specialize in sports medicine. These physicians volunteer hundreds of hours each year at the Center.
Nix Health provides support through the services of sports medicine fellows, orthopaedic technician and support staff.
Sports Medicine Center patients have access to many diagnostic imaging services through Nix Health, including: X-RAY, CT SCAN, MRI, and BONE SCAN
Convenient Saturday morning hours provide athletes access to leading sports medicine specialists without missing any school.

EDUCATIONAL ADVANCEMENT
The Sports Medicine Center is an accredited teaching facility.
Professional athletic trainers, and their student trainers, are usually the first on scene when an athletic injury occurs.
At the Sports Medicine Center, under the guidance of sports medicine physicians, the athletic trainers and student athletic trainers observe diagnostic evaluations and techniques that enhance and develop their assessment skills. Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and Pediatric Sports Medicine Fellows participate in the evaluation of athletes.
The team approach focuses on the preparation and training of athletes including conditioning and performance enhancement and the prevention of athletic injuries or re-injury. The goal is to enable the athlete to maintain active participation in sports.

SCHOLARSHIPS
As the Nix Sports Medicine Center has grown, so has the awareness of a critical need for highly skilled professional athletic trainers. In recognition of this, the DeLee-Evans Foundation for Sports Medicine and Orthopaedics, in affiliation with the Nix Health Care Foundation, annually awards scholarships to area high school seniors pursuing a career in athletic training.
The Nix Health Care Foundation is a nonprofit, tax exempt charitable organization whose mission is to provide programs and services that promote health and wellness through education, awareness and prevention.
The DeLee-Evans Foundation for Sports Medicine and Orthopaedics is affiliated with the Nix Health Care Foundation.
