Sports Medicine Clinic
The Nix Sports Medicine Clinic provides intensive support and quality medical care to student athletes in Bexar and surrounding counties. Evaluation and treatment of injuries is provided by physicians who volunteer over 300 clinical hours annually. Professional and student trainers, who are usually first on the scene at a sporting event, observe the treatment of athletic injuries to enhance their own skills. Orthopaedic Fellows are given the chance to observe the latest techniques in sports medicine diagnostic evaluation and treatment under the guidance of experienced professionals at the Clinic, which is an accredited teaching facility.
Scholarships
The DeLee-Evans Foundation for Sports Medicine and Orthopaedics, in affiliation with the Nix Health Care Foundation, annually awards scholarships to high school students pursuing careers in athletic training. The Nix Foundation also awards nursing scholarships to Nix Health employees.
Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship
The Nix Health Care Foundation supports an Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship that is part of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. The year-long program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The program is supported by grants from BIOMET, Smith & Nephew, Arthrex and Stryker Orthopaedics.
Continuing Medical Education
The Foundation offers continuing education to South Texas healthcare professionals on cardiology, orthopedic and psychiatry issues, and other relevant topics.
