Sports Medicine Clinic
Sponsored by the Nix Health Care Foundation
Sports Medicine Center
Supporting young athletes for more than 25 years.
Established in 1983 as an outreach program, Dr. Jesse C. DeLee developed a sports clinic program to assist San Antonio’s inner city schools with athletic injuries, the Nix Sports Medicine Center has since expanded to include schools and universities throughout San Antonio and South Texas.
The Center evaluates over 1,000 injured student athletes each year. High school athletic trainers and high school student trainers are invited to accompany their injured athletes to the Center in order to observe the assessment of the injury and the necessary rehabilitative techniques to get an athlete back in playing condition. The team approach focuses on the preparation and training of athletes including conditioning and performance enhancement and the prevention of athletic injuries or re-injury.
As part of the accredited teaching program, medical doctors serving orthopaedic sports medicine fellowships are given the chance to observe the latest techniques in sports medicine diagnostic evaluation and treatment under the guidance of experienced professionals at the Center.
Nix Health provides support through the services of an orthopaedic technician and support staff. Sports Medicine Center patients have access to many diagnostic imaging services through Nix Health.
Diagnostic testing such as X-ray, MRI, or CT-scans are not included as part of the complimentary evaluation. The athlete must pay any applicable insurance co-payments and deductibles required by their insurance company.
