San Antonio Diagnostic Imaging
Providing Accurate Diagnoses via Advanced Tools
Advances in medical technology have led to more accurate diagnoses and
better treatment. At Nix Health, we offer a full range of advanced diagnostic
imaging tools to better serve our patients. Our medical professionals
utilize everything from MRIs to ultrasounds to nuclear medicine to provide
you with better, more complete care.
We offer various services at both Nix Medical Center and Nix Alamo Heights,
3D breast tomosynthesis—Used to detect breast cancer earlier than standard mammography. This is
an FDA approved, non-invasive, more accurate test that is performed in
conjunction with a standard 2D mammogram.
Barium studies (X-rays)—Used to detect causes of various symptoms, including abdominal discomfort,
constipation, diarrhea, or blood in the stool.
CT scans—A CT Scan produces an image slice of the area to be examined. These slices
can be reconstructed to view many different angles.
MRI/MRAs—MRI Scans provide clearer, more detailed scans of your internal
organs and tissues from many angles without using radiation. A typical
exam lasts between 20 minutes to an hour. Nix offers a number of MRI scans;
contact us to learn more.
Multiple Gated Acquisition (MUGA) scans—This scan produces an image of the heart to measure the left ventricle
ejection fraction (LVEF) or the amount of blood pumped out of the left
ventricles with every heartbeat.
Nuclear medicine—Nuclear medicine uses very small amounts of radioactive materials to safely
diagnose and treat various medical conditions. At Nix, we offer gastric
emptying, Hida scans, Meckels scans, and thyroid scans.
Ultrasounds—An ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of internal
organs and view blood flow through arteries.
Total body bone scans (TBBS)—The total body bone scan identifies damage to bones, infections and bone
cancer. This scan takes approximately three hours.
